UTA Past and Present Unite to Make Live Shakespeare a Reality
Arlington, TX– University of Texas at Arlington Alumni are working with current staff and faculty to bring live Shakespeare performances to Downtown Arlington and the metroplex, as a whole, in a project called Shakespeare LIVE.
Half a dozen former UTA students from the last four decades, including acclaimed actor Lou Diamond Phillips, have worked over the last year to bring accessible live theatre to the area.
Rehearsals for the April 3-5 performances of Shakespeare’s As You Like It are officially underway. They began this week with table reads at Dance Theatre of Arlington’s Miss Persis Studio of Dance in Downtown Arlington.
The non-profit will host four performances, including an 11 AM matinee dedicated to local schools and theater programs. The other performances will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM. All performances will be free and open to the public at the Levitt Pavilion in the center of Downtown Arlington.
Shakespeare LIVE’s mission is to bring the North Texas community together for entertainment and educational opportunities through free, live performances of Shakespeare every year. It is made possible by Downtown Arlington, Women Inspiring Philanthropy and many members of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
